Hi! My name is Rhys.
I’ve spent my professional life being “glue” between niches of ambitious frontier people. I’ve taught for more than ten years to thousands of students around the world, including a class on Blockchain Ethics at MIT.
Roote is my Ikigai—I’m a teacher at heart and think education is upstream of everything.
I’m currently writing a book.

FAQ
+ Is this Fellowship right for me?
If you've made it this far, likely yes.
But yes, RF is a "weird" fellowship. Given the nature of humanity's struggles, the Fellowship is interdisciplinary, multi-perspective, and systems-focused. RF is right for you if you're immensely curious, comfortable with abstraction, ambitious, and can get things done.
RF is not right for you if you're looking for a program that teaches one specific skill, or if you're looking to build an incremental solution. Finally, RF is a fit for people who align with our values. See our About page for more.
+ What kinds of professions is this course geared towards?
As noted above, this course is extremely wide in scope. We've found it fits best for professions who have a stake in the future.
+ What stage are Fellows typically at?
There are two general types of Fellows:
- Explorers who are just starting their journey into the frontier and are looking to transition into this kind of work.
- Builders who are already creating an aligned organization.
We have lots of high school students, college students, and working professionals.
+ How do you assess candidates?
Are they serious & curious? Do they align with the Roote Values?
+ Where is the Fellowship located?
The course is digital but we'll meet in-person if you're in SF, and you will meet fellows if they're in your part of the world.
+ How many people will be part of the Fellowship cohort?
10-40
+ What happens every week? How much time can I expect to spend on coursework each week?
You should commit 5-10 hours per week for each of the 10 weeks in the course.
The workload is intense, but you don’t need to take time off school or work to participate. The program is designed to slot into your current life and schedule. With that said, you’ll need to block off time each week for the class time, content, and your project.
Most online courses don’t lead to results because they ask for too little from their students. RF is the opposite. It offers a proven roadmap for sparking your success spiral. But that requires time and discipline.
+ What happens on the live group calls?
We use a flipped classroom. You consume content on your own, and we use the group time for interactive exercises to synthesize learnings. Expect lots of breakout rooms and discussion.
+ How do you make money?

We are not an incubator and do not get equity in the fellows' projects. Some fellows have given back in the years after they have graduated but there is no expectation.
